We’re Open — Come Explore Fort Adams

Fort Adams is open seven (7) days a week from 9:30am – 4:00 pm for the 2026 season, offering both self-guided and guided tours daily.

New this year, we are offering two (2) brand new unique Guided Tours themed Life at the Fort (11:30am and 3:30pm) and Storm the Fort (9:30am and 1:30pm).

Visitors can explore the Fort’s historic grounds, walk the 6½-acre parade field, enter the casemates, and take in sweeping views of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay.

Looking for a more personalized experience? Private tours are available year-round and are a great option for families, groups, or special visits.

Private tours offer a deeper, more customized way to experience Fort Adams, including access to the tunnels, ramparts, and restored spaces throughout the Fort.

Available throughout the season—and during the winter months when the Fort is closed to general admission—these tours are ideal for small groups, visiting guests, or special occasions.

Help us Restore the Fort

Since 1994, Historic Fort Adams has been operated by the Fort Adams Trust, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to preserve and revitalize historic Fort Adams for the public’s benefit. We depend on support from our community to further our mission through memberships, sponsorships, and donations.

Your support directly strengthens our mission to preserve and revitalize Fort Adams, ensuring it remains an open, accessible, and historically rich landmark for generations to come. Thank you for continuing to support Fort Adams Trust as we work together to preserve this historic treasure that anchors our community.

Saturday, July 4 — Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks
An evening of live music, family fun, and one of the best views of Newport’s fireworks over the harbor. The Parade Field (East Gate) opens at 6:00 PM, with live music from The Americana’s from 6:30 to 9:00 PM and fireworks beginning at approximately 9:15 PM. Food trucks will be on site, and guests are welcome to bring picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs. Bouncy houses and lawn games will be available for all ages. Admission is free, but registration is required for access to the parade field and on-site parking.
The Trust notes that registration is not the only way to see the fireworks—Fort Adams State Park is a public park and will remain open to all. Registration provides access to event amenities on the parade field and parking inside the Fort. Organizers encourage carpooling, biking, and patience to ease congestion.
Sunday, July 5 — Veterans Appreciation Day
In partnership with the Newport Historical Society and Newport VFW Post 406, Fort Adams Trust will honor veterans with a with a special performance by the Navy Band Northeast Trident Brass Quintet at Fort Adams starting at 6:00 PM—a fitting tribute to close out the celebration.
Spend a summer day at Fort Adams with a relaxed, bring-your-own picnic. Pack your favorite food, grab a blanket or chairs, and enjoy waterfront views, open green space, and fresh ocean air. Whether you’re meeting friends or just looking for a peaceful spot to unwind, the Fort is the perfect place to picnic. Grounds open at 9:00 AM.
In addition, the Fort will be offering free self-guided and guided tours for all veterans and active-duty service members all day long.
