Twenty years ago, a small group dreamed of building an exact replica of the beautiful French warship that brought the Marquis de Lafayette to America. The Marquis worked tirelessly to help ensure our victory over Great Britain.
This dream is now reality and this majestic vessel is currently sailing towards Newport, launching an adventure that comes here in July!
Fort Adams is ready to greet the great ship, her crew and an exciting cast of French sailors, dignitaries, historic interpreters, spies, cavalry with horses, chefs and a few barmen ready to keep you hydrated.
The activities will be non-stop, and the food, fun, and pomp & circumstance will give you a thrill.
These paid events contribute to the preservation and restoration of historic Fort Adams, a National Historic Landmark.

His Excellency General George Washington* and General Nathanael Green cordially invite you to a colonial soiree on Thursday July 9, 2015. The event honors Hermione, a French Revolutionary War era Class A Tall ship on its first goodwill visit to the United States. The citizens of the Republic of France, our steadfast friends and allies through the years, built Hermione to honor our longstanding friendship
The Soiree will begin promptly at 6:00 PM, with music of fife and drum, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Entertainment will continue throughout the evening. Guests will be joined by over 50 uniformed historic interpreters.
The dinner will be held inside the walls of historic Fort Adams, America’s largest coastal fortress. The vaulted brick and stone rooms, which formerly housed the cannons, make for a truly unique and period event. You will feel like you’re dining with the Generals in 1778.
The dinner befitting a gathering of this august group will begin at 7:00. A firing of the cannons, some originally cast by American founder Paul Revere, will signal dinner’s end and the bon voyage salute to Hermione as she prepares to depart Rhode Island waters for Boston and beyond.
The meal will feature some of the general’s favorite interpretations of classic colonial fare, including ham, which he cured at Mount Vernon and often gave as gifts. A specialty cocktail with additional libation familiar to the General and his staff, as well as a gift bag for each party are included.
