Fort Adams provides visitors with unmatched views of the Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor. Ample areas to picnic and parking is free!
Since 2002, guided tours have taken visitors into and around, past and current, restoration projects. Though partially obscured by vegetation, the Fort's land defenses are among the most complex in North America.
Completed in 2004, the North Casemates restoration earned the Fort Adams Trust the 2004 Historic Preservation Award from the Newport Historical Society. No tour could be complete without experiencing our underground listening tunnels. Often at a height of only 4 1/2 feet, these tunnels stretch deep beneath the Fort's land defenses.
In 2004, the Naval War College created the exhibit "Technological Transformation and the Defenses of Narragansett Bay and the Nation, 1704-2004," for display in the North Casemates. With yearly additions, the War College exhibit remains a highlight of our tours.
