The West Side of the Bay Walk takes you along the picturesque East Passage of the Narragansett Bay with unobstructed views of the sun setting over Conanicut Island (Jamestown).
Fort Adams State Park is open sunrise to sunset! Walk your pup, have a picnic, and much more!
- Leashed dogs are even permitted on self-guided and guided tours! Be careful on guided tours as there are steep stairs going up to the overlook and confined areas in the tunnels which may be uncomfortable for dogs. Please use your discretion when bringing dogs on a guided tour. All owners must clean up after their dogs.
- Fort Adams State Park is carry in & carry out. Please bring any waste (food wrappers, cans, etc.) with you.
- Fort Adams State Park has ample free parking directly in front of the Fort’s main entrance. Overnight parking passes are available for purchase in the Park Visitor Center.
Prepare for The Bay Walk
Travel the 2.5-mile perimeter of Fort Adams and experience the best views of Narragansett Bay!

Watch as the boats, yachts and cruise ships pass by while overlooking several local landmarks:
- Clingstone – The ‘House on the Rock’ due east
- Castle Hill Lighthouse – Can be seen on the coast to the south
- Beavertail Lighthouse – Can be viewed at the Southern tip of Jamestown
- Rose Island Lighthouse – Best viewed at the northern end of the walk, it is the Rose Island lighthouse is located on the island in front of the Newport Bridge.
The East Side of the Bay Walk overlooks Newport harbor and the downtown waterfront as well as picturesque Brenton Cove, one of the area’s most popular places to anchor a boat.
Across the harbor you will see:
- New York Yacht Club – The mansion recognizable by its green and white awning
- Ida Lewis Yacht Club – Located on the rocky outcropping now connected to Newport via a long pier
- Newport Waterfront – Across the harbor due east of Fort Adams State Park
- Goat Island – Formerly home to one of the largest torpedo factories in the US, this large island between the park and Newport is now home to the Hyatt Hotel

Our Visitor Center is at 80 Fort Adams Dr, Newport, RI 02840. It has restrooms as well as merchandise and tour tickets to purchase.
Overnight parking passes are available for purchase in the Park Visitor Center.

See the Eisenhower House

Built in 1873 by the renowned Newport architects George Champlin Mason & Sons, the Eisenhower House has been witness to nearly 150 years of American history. Originally built to house Fort Adams Commanding Officer and family, this beautiful house served as President Eisenhower’s “Summer White House” in 1958 & 1960.
